Quick Guide : The Art of Steeping Tea

RSS

Steeping is the process of soaking loose tea or tea bags in hot water to release the flavor and nutrients. Preparing a perfect cup of tea is an art form. Properly steeping your tea will ensure your tea's best flavors. The art of steeping tea differs from green, black, white or herbal teas. Below is quick guide to help get you started in mastering the art of steeping tea.

1) Heating the Water

Use the freshest water you can. I would recommend using purified water. Using fresh water will make your tea taste that much better. Heat your fresh water in a tea kettle until it comes to a boil. White tea should be prepared a little before the boil begins.

2) Steeping the Tea

Each tea has a different amount of time for steeping. These are just guidelines and varies depending on your personal taste. I found these time frames to be optimal for the average tea drinker. You want to experiment to find the steeping time that is best for your cup of tea.

  • Black tea should be steeped for 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Green tea should be steeped for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • White tea should be steeped for for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Oolong tea should be steeped for for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Herbal teas should be steeped for 4 to 6 minutes.

 3) Enjoy Your Perfect Cup of Tea

Remove the tea bag or infuser or tea strainer. Pour the hot tea into a cup and let it cool for a minute. Now it's time to enjoy your perfect cup of tea.
